Join Us for the 2025 Emancipation Day Celebration

On August 1st, 2025, Black History Manitoba invites you to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights for a powerful and inspiring Emancipation Day Celebration - a day to honour the resilience, culture, and ongoing contributions of Black communities in Canada.

The program will feature:

  • Opening Spoken Word by Ralph Bryant
  • Anthem Performances by One Voice (TBC)
  • Welcome and Reflections from community leaders, including Mrs. Natalie Bell, Mrs. Mavis McLaren, and Maggie Yeboah
  • Treaty Acknowledgement and remarks from CMHR’s Segun Olude
  • Prayer and Live Performances (TBC)
  • Acknowledgements from provincial and municipal representatives
  • A moving video presentation on Emancipation Day in Canada
  • Guest speakers sharing personal stories through a “Quilt” presentation
  • A vibrant crowd drumming experience with Jay Stoller from Drum Café

Come together in community, celebration, and remembrance. This event is free and open to the public.
